Karen Borst-­Rothe is a professional writing instructor and communications consultant with over 30 years of experience helping students and organizations including, but not limited to: UC Berkeley, Kaiser Permanente, as well as UCSF

 

Description:

The Office of Career and Professional Development and the School of Nursing offer Karen Borst-Rothe's presentations on comprehensive exam writing skills, addressing both format and content issues. These presentations are geared toward helping you write a more effective comprehensive exam.

 

Learning Outcomes: 

Issues covered in these workshops include:

  • Review of the four sections needed in nearly every paper: introduction, literature review, discussion, and conclusion
  • Discussion of the basic principles of style necessary to present cohesive evidence in a logical sequence, including elements of paragraph development and function of transitions with adequate depth, breadth and clarity to meet exam requirements
  • Common writing problems and possible solutions (with examples)
  • Learn how to do a self-assessment of your own writing and develop a process for self-improvement - over time
