Presenter: Homayoon Kazerooni, PhD

Dr. Kazerooni is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley and the director of the Berkeley Robotics and Human Engineering Laboratory. He is a leading expert in robotics, control sciences, exoskeletons, human-machine systems and augmentation, bioengineering, mechatronics design, intelligent assist devices, and power and propulsion. Dr. Kazerooni has developed robotics systems that enhance human upper and lower extremity strength. His technologies, including the Human Universal Load Carrier (HULC) and Ekso, have been impactful in the industrial, military, and medical fields. Ekso allows individuals who have experienced a stroke, spinal cord injuries, or health conditions obligating them to use a wheelchair to stand and walk. Dr. Kazerooni is a recipient of Discover Magazine’s Technological Innovation Award, the McKnight-Land Grant Professorship, and outstanding ASME Investigator Award.
