Students for the Prevention of Violence at UCSF is proud to host the 15th Annual Interpersonal Violence Prevention Conference, Healing Trauma: Addressing Systems of Violence.

The conference will focus on the interconnectedness of multiple forms of violence, how these connections affect patients and communities, and how we can transform our care to promote healing.

Topics that will be addressed include structural violence, sexual violence, community violence, violence in LGBTQI communities, violence in homeless communities, intimate partner violence, and child abuse.

This conference, which was formerly known as the Domestic Violence Conference, is an interprofessional effort, including the schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and physical therapy. This conference is critical in training future practitioners to address abuse and trauma with patients, support survivors and advocate for violence prevention. Attendees will be given the opportunity to interact with specialists from a range of disciplines through small breakout sessions, provider trainings, and panel discussions featuring community professionals and patients.

The planning committee is working with two campus organizations who are raising awareness on campus about issues of violence, #whitecoats4blacklives and the UCSF Sexual Violence Response Team. Through collaboration with members of #whitecoats4blacklives, we are incorporating material into the conference that will explore the relationship between violence, racism, oppression, and health. With the help of the UCSF Sexual Violence and Response Team, we will also highlight and discuss recent campus initiatives stemming from the UCOP President’s Task Force on Preventing and Responding to Sexual Violence & Sexual Assault.

If you are a UCSF student, you can also receive a full unit of credit (P/F) for attending the conference!
